Sunday May 1, 2005 Day 2
Sam and I got 5 hours of hotel rack time last
night and man did it feel good. We were out of the hotel by 7 and
at the track and all squared away early. I checked the IRP results
again on the web site and it looks like they corrected the error
from yesterday. So looking at the results, in the first run session
we came in 25th (Glen beat me by .06 seconds) but in the second
run session I scored a 20th overall and was able to beat him by
almost 6 seconds.
Our fortune continued today, as of this writing Sam
and I have moved into first place in the vintage foreign class,
and are running 17th overall out of 90 cars. We had a great but
cold and windy day at BeaveRun. I lined up behind Glen Clarke for
our morning run session and on the last lap in turn 9 after he passed
a Corvette he spun the car. Having been a short distance behind,
I was able to pass both Glen and the Corvette before the checkered
flag. That put me in 19th position for the morning run, with Glen
coming in 38th after losing valuable time in the spin. The afternoon
turned out even better I achieved a personal One Lap best of 7th
overall with my main competitor Glen coming in 21st.

We were paid a visit in the morning by Mike Herock
a fellow Porsche enthusiast who learned about the event from my
web posting on the Pelican Parts web forum. We compared notes on
our cars (he has a beautiful 89 911) as he took a bunch of pictures
of other Porsches, Brock Yates and Tony Swan from Car and Driver,
and the venue. I always have a great time talking to other enthusiasts
who come out to see the events.

years in a row.

We packed up the car and drove 200 miles to
Lancaster Speedway for a paved oval event. Not much to say about
that, three laps driving in a circle as fast as you can. The most
notable part of this event is that the wind was blowing quite hard,
and it was freezing. We left Lancaster, NY at about 7:30 PM and
are headed to NHIS in Loudon, NH for tomorrow, a 433 mile drive.
I guarantee we won’t get 5 hours of hotel rack time tonight.
