Day 8
Tuesday May 3, 2005 Day 4
Today started like every other One Lap day with
us arriving at the Summit Point Shenandoah track and unpacking the
car. I had run this course last fall in its afternoon configuration
but this morning we are running a slightly different configuration.
I walked the track for about 30 minutes and then settled in for
my run session. Shortly after my run session, my sister Lisa showed
up with her two kids and another friend of hers. She brought us
a picnic lunch and the kids had a great time checking the cars out
and talking to people. Shortly after lunch the results were posted
and Sam and I came in 14th overall for that run group which put
us at 14th in the overall standings.
The afternoon session began with a dramatic crash
of the number 64 Subaru WRX STI. On the back straight the car was
too far on the right when it became airborne, lost control, drove
through the carousel almost flipping on its side and then crashing
head on into the tire wall behind the turn. Fortunately the driver
was OK but the car was crunched pretty badly. This was a sober reminder
to all of us to stay left and make sure you go over the rise perfectly
straight.
After the afternoon run we packed up the car and drove
to Mason Dixon Dragway where Sam and I had a great time watching
the cars run and participating as well. In the ET run I ran a respectable
13.092 and that was with not shifting into second well. On my ET
runs we made it to the 4th round before we were eliminated.
As of this writing, the day’s remaining
results are in. We ranked 10th for the afternoon session at Summit
Point, 17th overall for the ET drag races, and earned 445 points
for the bracket drag. This performance combined with the loss of
the Subaru (the crash) and the Supra (mechanical problems) has propelled
us to a tie for 10th overall for the entire event with an Acura
NSX-R. continue>
