Well the curtain is beginning to come down on
another One Lap as we have completed the final two road course events
at Nelson Ledges. I’m happy to report at this point, we have
won the Vintage Foreign class. While we dominated throughout the
event, it was still a very real possibility that a mechanical failure
or mistake could sideline the car and Glen and Lou would take the
lead. That possibility was eliminated this afternoon when we exceeded
the amount of points Glen and Lou could catch up with if we did
not finish (DNF) the remaining events.
So down to the numbers. We placed 20th in the morning
and 26th in the afternoon at Nelson Ledges. As it stands we are
in 13th position overall 30 points behind Scott and Steve Ahlgrim
in 12th and 85 points ahead of the DynoComp Subaru STI. The final
event tomorrow is the dry skidpad challenge, an event that I am
notoriously poor at. The goal for the remaining event will be to
preserve our top 15 ranking and hopefully prevent the DynoComp car
from overtaking us. Of course rising to 12th position, a mere 7
positions tomorrow is possible, but I’m going to have to become
much more proficient at the skidpad overnight.
The NSX controversy took a turn today after some intense
discussion between Brock Yates jr. and the NSX drivers. After it
was all said and done, Brock declared the matter closed because
of a lack of evidence proving their guilt. I managed to get what
I thought was some good inside information about the subject, I
won’t share it because it is second hand, but my understanding
is that if the people in the know feel like talking, those guys
will be going home empty handed.
Right now Sam and I are about an hour east of South
Bend and closing fast. We are very much looking forward to some
cold beers, a good meal, and maybe some more cold beers. Tomorrow
will be fun, the pressure is off, we are completing our most successful
One Lap ever, and the only thing left to do is enjoy the victory.
Our success has not gone unnoticed, as many people I normally would
not have interacted with have sought me out to congratulate us on
our success. Both Brocks have also commented on how well we have
done. I must say it feels good to be recognized.
As is always the case, this One Lap is not even
over and people have begun to plan for next year. People are anxious
to begin applying what was learned this year. I guess I’m
no different, although now I can look at a first place trophy on
a shelf in the middle of next winter and know that we have succeeded
on a nationwide stage. continue>
