Today at VIR was a very eventful and satisfying
day. We drove to the north paddock, unpacked the car, and then drove
the car to the South paddock to run the South course. We are going
to run three events today, the South course and the North course
in the morning and the full course in the afternoon.
The first run sessions in the morning went well.
I knew I did much better on the South course than the North course
simply because I know it so much better. Sure enough when the results
came out I scored a 19th overall on the South course and a 27th
overall on the North course. My buddy George in the Viper was extremely
thrilled to have beaten me on the North course and proceeded to
needle me for several minutes when the results were posted.
It was a beautiful day at the track and we got plenty
of time to relax during lunch. We sat around shooting the shit with
my buddy Stewart Petke who drove down from Richmond to hang out
for the day. Mom and dad split around noon.
On the full course, George's co-driver Ryan will be
driving the Viper. As always we have a friendly rivalry going on
and there was a lot of smack talk about who was going to beat who
in the afternoon session. I got the car out on the track and it
felt amazing. Before long I will have the same confidence in this
car that I had in the car that I was driving for five years prior.
When the results of this run session were finally posted, Ryan was
dumbfounded to find out that his blistering 16th overall finish
wasn't enough to beat my 13th overall finish. Man, I was hauling
the mail this afternoon.
There were two casualties today one major and
one minor. The major one was a silver Noble which crashed hard coming
out of turn 10. The driver is okay, but the car sustained heavy
damage. As we packed the car and left the North paddock, they were
working feverishly to put it back together. We hope we see them
tomorrow. The minor casualty was Sam's head, which sustained a minor
sunburn, he says it feels like a baked potato. continue>
